Job Summary

City Brewery's Brewmaster leads and oversees the efficient operation of liquid production in both the Brewing and Batching departments. In addition to ensuring process efficiency, this individual mentors and coaches a large team of production associates, supervisors, and managers to provide daily direction setting and career development opportunities. As a member of City's leadership team, the Brewmaster will work collaboratively with cross\-functional leaders at the La Crosse facility and across City's network to promote the company's production and operational goals. This role is equally responsible for the timely and efficient production of finished products in accordance with customer specifications, safety, and the principles of good manufacturing practices. The La Crosse facility is capable of producing up to 7 million barrels of beer a year and currently brews and blends about 40 different recipes for City's contracted customers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Designs and supports procedures for the efficient production of both brewed and blended finished products
Effectively develops and manages the output of the various stages of the brewing and batching processes, including record keeping and timely communication of results
Acts as the site SME for all brewing\-related processes
Codifies, updates, and communicates internal and customer quality specifications in a comprehensive and readily accessible format
Effectively troubleshoot causes for deviations from specifications
Communicates directly with customers regarding department issues, ensuring that customer expectations regarding samples and record keeping are met
Effectively monitors microbiological and GMP standards and ensures departmental compliance
Communicates effectively with other department leaders regarding liquid supply and quality concerns
Creates and enforces departmental practices that meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements
Provides staff training, development, and mentoring as needed to develop the capabilities of both employees and the department
Assists in the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of departmental capital projects and continuous improvement projects
Manages department materials, including inventory and changes to Bills of Materials
Manages and motivates a work force of hourly and staff employees to ensure a cost effective allocation of departmental labor
Provides direction for the brewing and batching maintenance teams

Minimum Qualifications

3\-5 years’ experience managing and coaching large teams, preferably in the Brewing industry
B.S. in a related science discipline (Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology, Engineering, etc.) or equivalent
Specialized training in Brewing Science from a recognized Brewing school or equivalent experience
Proven success in brewing process optimization to deliver consistent quality and cost metrics
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team\-centered environment
Ability to motivate a team through a changing environment
Working knowledge of the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices
