Multiple Ph.D. Research Assistant Scholarships: Michigan Tech offers multiple Ph.D. research assistant scholarships for projects in the areas of connected and automated vehicles, intermodal logistical modeling, and railroad systems modeling. The designated students will work on cutting-edge research projects with a focus on transportation, logistics, and connected vehicle technologies. Designation: Ph.D. Research Assistant Research Area: Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs), Intermodal Logistical Modeling, Railroad Systems Modeling Location: Michigan Technological University, Houghton, Michigan, U.S.A. Minimum Requirements: • Passion for research areas in transportation and logistics systems, connected and automated vehicles, Cyber-Physical Systems, VANET, Internet of Things, and smart cities. • Solid mathematics background such as operations research, control theory, and machine learning. • Proficient programming skills in C++. Job Description: • Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs): Research and on-road testing of vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) systems with C-V2X onboard units (OBUs) and roadside units (RSUs). Development of software systems using C++ in Linux and testing connected and automated vehicles in the real world. • Intermodal Logistical Modeling: Work on intermodal logistics modeling, freight network modeling, intermodal freight network simulation, freight demand modeling, renewable energy consumption modeling for transportation, and cooperation decision-making automation using C++ in Windows. • Railroad Systems Modeling: Focus on railroad systems modeling, train control and communications, rail intermodal terminal optimization, train arrival time estimation, and rail capacity analysis using Python or C++ programming.
