Kind of Work

The Land and Minerals Department is seeking a highly motivated and responsible natural resources oriented professional to serve as a chief assistant to the Land and Minerals Director directly overseeing the department’s operations in forest and land management in high\-level planning, administration, commodities, fiscal responsibility, and environmental stewardship. Position location negotiable and will be based at our Duluth, Pike Lake, or Virginia, Minnesota office locations. The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025\. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $45\.70 \- $66\.05 per hour. This position is part of the Civil Service Supervisory Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by the St. Louis County Employees Association.

Distinguishing Features of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for the day\-to\-day administration of an assigned functional area in the Land and Minerals Department and serving as an assistant to the Director, and representing the Department in the Director's absence. Duties include establishing department policies, setting priorities, developing goals, directing business activities, supervising staff and assisting with the fiduciary responsibility of managing and protecting the tax forfeited trust. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

Selection Process

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in forestry, planning, resource management, geology, engineering, business administration or a closely related field AND seven (7\) years full\-time paid verifiable progressively responsible experience, two (2\) years of which was supervising or assisting in the administration of a natural resource management program; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in forestry, planning, resource management, geology, engineering, business administration or a closely related field AND five (5\) years full\-time paid verifiable progressively responsible experience, two (2\) years of which was supervising or assisting in the administration of a natural resource management program.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
