JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) at Penn State is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to join our Strategic Initiatives team. In this dynamic role, you will facilitate research project logistics, manage data, and maintain compliance, ensuring smooth communication between sponsors, team members, and participants. You will also have the opportunity to engage with Penn State's research community to expand the institute's customer base by developing new business relationships. ICDS works with researchers from more than 70 academic departments from nearly all of Penn State's academic colleges and campuses, facilitating new collaborations, funding new areas of research, collaborating to overcome computational and data science challenges, building a diverse community of scholars, and providing a robust supercomputer for the Penn State community. ICDS seeks to equip researchers with the most cutting-edge computing tools and resources to further their science, and as a part of ICDS, you will be contributing to this goal. The position will report to the Assistant Director for Strategic Initiatives and may work with or provide support to the ICDS Project Management Office and ICDS Co-Hire research centers. Work Arrangement: This role is on-site at University Park with potential flexibility for hybrid remote work depending on the projects. As a Research Assistant, your responsibilities include the following: • Coordinate research project logistics, including scheduling, communication, and training sessions. • Support data management through entry, coding, and reporting. • Serve as a liaison for investigators, sponsors, and community partners. • Assist with financial tasks, including reconciliations, spend-down trends, and budget tracking. • Drive business development by seeking new customers and expanding existing relationships. • Prepare client presentations, proposals, and provide project updates. • May serve as direct supervisor for part-time, student, and/or temporary workers or volunteers. Desired qualifications and skills include the following: Successful candidates should demonstrate experience and skill with Microsoft Office applications, possess strong organizational and communication skills, demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines, and have experience in research administration and/or sales. Minimum Education and Experience: This position requires a minimum of a High School degree and 2+ years of relevant experience. Candidates must also have impeccable ethics and integrity with a strong work ethic as well as strong interpersonal and written skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
